Operation Potcake – congratulations Bahamas Waste Ltd

It’s not often that we hear of clinical waste management companies sponsoring some good cause, though that may be more apparent than real and due to lack of reporting rather than lack of sponsorship.

So, it’s not unreasonable to wave a flag and say well done to any company putting its hand deep into its corporate pocket, to support some worthy cause with direct financial support, advice and technical services, or material support.

Congratulations then to Bahamas Waste. They have offered support to Operation Potcake – where does the name come from† – a programme to spay and neuter cats and dogs in The Bahamas. This is now in its second year of operation and once again Bahamas Waste Limited lent a helping hand.

Good for them!

And don’t hide your light under a bushel. If you have provided support for some worthy source, feel free to use the Clinical Waste Discussion Forum to tell others.

† Potcakes are local dogs, a mix of many different breeds. They may resemble a typical pariah dog or have hound, mastiff, spaniel, terrier, or retriever characteristics. Although appearance varies, potcake dogs generally have smooth coats, cocked ears, and long faces.

A “Potcake” is a Bahamian word for the crusty, leftover food that remains in the bottom of a traditional pot of rice mix. People fed the potcake to the stray dogs that hung around their property. These lovely dogs have since become known as Potcakes.
