Clinical waste disposal becomes a US presidential election issue

The furious lobby against those clinical waste disposal contractors providing disposal services to licensed US abortion clinics continues unabated. Now, the Stop Stericycle campaign looks set to spill over into the US presidential elections.

As the candidates – Obama and Romney – lock horns and seek to gather votes, the worst of US politics shows its teeth with the headline “Romney invested in medical waste company that disposes aborted fetuses“.

“Mitt Romney invested in Stericycle, a massive medical waste disposal service company that disposes medical waste from Planned Parenthood and abortion clinics — waste that includes aborted fetuses — and attracts the ire of the pro-life community and establishment Republicans.  The company received a $75 million investment from Bain Capital in 1999 which led to its emergence as a leader in the industry.  Today, Stericylce has more than 485,000 customers worldwide. Its clients include hospitals, blood banks, and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

“Romney had denied any wrongdoing, stating he left Bain Capital in early 1999 before their investment in Stericycle.

We have commented previously on the illegal activities of the so-called Step Stericycle campaign. This new twist seems like a non-issue, but one that badly taints US politics and political campaigning.
