Better late than never, the Environment Agency have issued guidance concerning healthcare waste management changes in relation to coronavirus.
It all seems quite sensible, though predictably late to appear. T hough the guidance is time-limited, we must hope that much of this regulatory relaxation is retained since much of it will reduce costs for waste producers and have no adverse impact on environmental matters. Indeed, for operators it will be cost effective although revenues may fall for some and the need for approved clinical waste incinerators – for sharps and pharma waste – will fall considerably.
