Innovations in waste sacks #2?

The Longostand® waste system from Nisus Medical Ltd uses Longopac® ‘ endless bag’ technology, available in mini and maxi sizes, and offers high-strength and low-material consumption.  Longopac® is available in several thicknesses and colours and is delivered in compact packages, including clips for safe manual closing of bags. Longopac® bags are manufactured from three-ply polyethylene.

A nice idea, but I have some concerns. If the polyethylene film role sufficiently strong? What about the ties, at top and bottom – will they give a fully leak- or seep-proof seal?

Those scissors dangling on a chain will become contaminated – how and when will they be sanitised? And what happens when they disappear, as they surely will?

But the most obvious problem that I foresee is of the overall design, that provides an unprotected (on all sides) open polyethylene bag. For use on a hospital ward, it is my understanding that the HTM FireCode makes specific comment on waste containers in clinical and associated areas that requires waste sacks to be fully unclosed.

Nice idea, through perhaps not for healthcare wastes, but if the FireCode issue is correct, then Longostand is in the sack.

One to watch?
