An interesting note in FixMyStreet concerning an orange sack located close in a residential street close to City Hospital, Birmingham.
The report states that this had been reported every week for no less than 5 weeks, but without uplift.
Not a good impression of Birmingham City Council, who conveniently give little information on their web pages, and no indication of service standards, which are clearly failing in this case.
This is a topic of particular interest to Blenkharn Environmental and one about which we have seen much discussion on the Clinical Waste Discussion Forum. There are clear infection risks and safety implications of leaving clinical wastes outside properties to await collection, but a more personalised pick-up from a locked container would be impossible at many properties and far too expensive.
Perhaps it’s time to repeat, now for the third time, the UK clinical waste audit to assess service performance by UK local authorities?
