We have, on the Clinical Waste Discussion Forum, campaigned against syringe pens, the child’s toy that masquerades as a blood-filled syringe and needle and which has been responsible for several serious scares, one of which caused great distress for a family when young child picked one up in a park and mother freaked, whisking her young one to A&E where doctors were understandably unsure whether the report of a possible sharps injury was real or not.
Clearly, syringe pens are here to stay. And now, for those with a ‘clinical’ sense of humour, several additional products are available in the toy shops:
Blood Bag Energy Drink
A fruit punch flavored energy drink filled with iron, protein, electrolytes, and caffeine that looks like real blood and comes in a resealable, transfusion-style blood bag.
Organ Transport Lunch Cooler
Is that egg mayo, or a transplant kidney?
Teddy Bear Blood Bag
