It is with regret that we announce the death at 80 years, of Bill Townend.

Bill had a long and comprehensive knowledge of waste management and of clinical or healthcare management in particular. From the perspective of a waste manager, he had done much to raise standards of performance largely through education and training, and latterly through research.
