There have been several reports recently, from at least 4 different countries including the UK, of teenagers and others sneaking into hospitals and other places where alcohol hand rub dispensers are used, to drink the contents!

This is not new: there were reports of individuals drinking from alcohol hand rub dispensers quite soon after their introduction into the UK – some with disastrous outcome (I seem to recall at least one fatality).

Now it seems like the start of a spreading trend mainly among the young.

Those providing alcohol hand rub supplies in the workplace or more generally to their workforce should be aware of the possibility, however remote, that these products can be misused.
