There has been much news about the two giant pandas recently arrived at Edinburgh Zoo on loan from China. We must give them a warm welcome.

For the next 6 months, Tian Tian and Yang Guang are in quarantine. As the pandas settled into their new, £250,000 home at the zoo, thanks to The Guardian some facts emerge about their lifestyles.

It is expected that the pair, currently living in two separate but adjoining enclosures, will first be introduced to each other in February or March, when Tian Tian comes into season.

Sadly though, and it’s surely going to be a bit of a passion killer, the bears’ faeces must be treated as clinical waste for the six months that they are legally in quarantine.

Each Panda will produce a large carrier bagful of poo each day. Is it black and white?
