Pensioners “plagued by vermin from abandoned HES Ltd plant”

A furious pensioner has told how her home is now plagued by rats and putrid pongs from an abandoned medical waste depot. The lady revealed vermin have overrun her garden since the Healthcare Environmental Services plant just 300 yards away shut its doors in December.

And she fears the horrific stench from tonnes of rotting clinical remains could harm the health of herself and her hubby Howard, 65.

The dog breeder, of Shotts, Lanarkshire, said: “To say I am disgusted with this is an understatement.

“We’re seeing rats on a regular basis. I won’t go out to my garden at night — I’m too scared of what might be out there.

“My husband has to keep putting rat poison out, which is not really suitable when you have show dogs. But what can we do?

Well, if I may suggest, it might be appropriate to question whether those rats came from the HES plant, or appeared coincidentally. Putting 2 and 2 together doesn’t always give the right answer, especially the you are sitting in front of a newspaper reporter looking for a story.

Going on to complain about the risk they face being near a pile of cancers removed at operation (!) shows just how much the public can be lead by inaccurate reporting and irrational fear.
