Hong Kong clinic fined HK$50,000 for dumping clinical waste

A private clinic in Cheung Sha Wan was fined HK$50,000 (about £5,000) at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts today for contravening the Waste Disposal Regulation.

In December last year, Environmental Protection Department staff intercepted an employee of Doctor Fung Kin Wah’s Clinic at Castle Peak Road for mixing its clinical waste with general refuse for disposal. A total of 85 syringes with needles, 45 needles and 26 used ampoules were found.

The Environmental Protection Department said they are considering referring the case to the Medical Council of Hong Kong for follow-up action.
