US “Stop Stericycle” campaign spreads to Stericycle suppliers

It seems that the “Campaign to Stop Stericycle” (CSS) are still making life difficult for Stericycle in the US for their implied support of various abortion clinics. Simply by collecting clinical waste from these clinics, which are operating legally though who fall foul of protesters and campaigners, Stericycle has been the subject of wild allegations and serious threats of violence.

A new tactic from the campaigners now seems to involve cash offers to Stericycle employees to resign their job and seek employment elsewhere. Additionally, Stericycle’s suppliers are themselves being petitioned, while protesters trace and visit Stericycle employee’s homes to deliver leaflets.

There can be no doubt that the clinics that are the source of campaigner’s wrath, and likewise Stericycle, operate in full compliance with and under the supervision of the relevant regulatory authorities.

Given the violence that has been seen from the anti-abortion lobby – at least one healthcare professional has been murdered – there is hopefully little doubt that the Police are dealing with this intimidation and threats.

Perhaps the regulators should be visible in support of these companies who are, we must assume, each operating entirely legally in a tightly regulated business. Campaigners may wish to change the laws regarding abortion, but this cannot be the right way to advance their cause.
