Sri Lanka hazardous waste program

The Sri Lanka Central Environment Authority will launch  in January a new program to curb hazardous waste from clinics, hospitals etc, CEA Chairman Charitha Herath has said. This will be a joint initiative with the Health and Environment Ministries.

The Central Environment Authority will make arrangements to get the ‘cluster wise incinerator’ which can be used to burn these hazardous waste. The CEA hope to deal with private sector institute and organizations to develop such cluster based incineration.

This sounds like a sound multi-agency approach to a complex problem, acknowledging and embracing the value of regional facilities and the involvement of private sector producers and providers.

To maximise capital investment and address pressing environmental issues, the developments will run in parallel with a similar development for e-waste management.

    1. Most equipment items are best obtained through international advertisement using standard procurement systems. This ensures the widest possible choices and the best prices

  2. It is now March, what is the CEA doing about this? Have they been able to obtain the incinerator. This can be great for the safety of the people and tourism industry as well. But the CEA seem to be a little slow on this. If the funding is there then why delays?
