Moncton fire destroys Stericycle disposal facility

A fire destroyed a large medical waste disposal facility in Moncton, New Brunswick on the night of Saturday 27 February.

Crews were called to Stericycle on Galloway Street in the Caledonia Industrial Park around 6:30.

The platoon chief with the Moncton Fire Department says when crews arrived, the building was fully engulfed in flames. Paul Bruens says there was so much damage, his crews couldn’t get inside, so they had to fight the fire from outside.

Fire crews were at the scene all night and just began wrapping up Sunday morning.

“What we’re doing is finally putting a layer of foam on top of all the areas that were still hot,” said Bruens.

He says no one was hurt in the blaze and investigators are trying to figure out how it started.
