Waste incinerator site wrongly approved

It is claimed that the Department of Environment (DOE) has wrongly approved a medical waste incinerator site with no buffer zone of 1 km radius at the SME Industrial Estate in Lok Kawi, East Malaysia, some six years ago.

A member of the EAC and SEPA said it is highly critical that the medical waste  incineration firm had not met all the required standards of emission of  pollutant smokes,

The incinerator is not equipped with the ash emission scrubber device to  protect public health. He added the EAC probing team also found it does not have adequate storage for the large volume of infectious medical wastes being brought into the plant from hospitals for incineration.
