Sharps bins installed at Occupy London for used hypodermic needles

The City of London Corporation has said that sharp bins have been put in place at the St Paul’s protest camp site after police found drug paraphernalia, including needles, littered around the area.

Some protesters have denied that the corporation was forced to install the sharp bins, claiming that they had provided their own!

  1. Some excellent behind-the-scenes photographs from the Occupy London camp displayed at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-15618378. One photo in particular (http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/56519000/jpg/_56519527_5.jpg), by Ben Roberts of the University of West London, shows a sharps bin and perhaps two spares.

What are these sharps bins for? What arrangements are made for their safe use and storage? Are all sharps used across this site placed safely into the bins? What are the disposal arrangements?
