Recycling plastics from clinical wastes

Scavengers are collecting medical waste at a dump in Luoyang, Henan Province, China, some of which is recyclked directly into seals for restaurant utensils.

There is much concern for public health – though the risk is more for those involved in the scavening and waste processing that for those further downstream.  The report makes it clear that some of the incoming plastic feedstock for recycling is contaminated with blood and urine, and has not been sterilised.
