Global Links is currently seeking a summer intern to engage on a research project on Healthcare Waste Management (HCWM) in the US and selected countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Healthcare Waste is a by-product of healthcare that includes sharps, non-sharps, blood, body parts, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and radioactive materials. Poor HCWM exposes healthcare workers, waste handlers and the community to infections, toxic effects and injuries. Global Links’ efforts to support public healthcare systems in LAC include concerns regarding this issue, and this research project is aimed to create substantial inputs to allow further organizational reflection and actions.

The intern will work directly with members of the International Medical Aid Department. This position is unpaid and it requires a minimum of 150 hours. Academic credit may be applicable. It is the intern’s responsibility, however, to fulfill all obligations towards academic credit with one’s advisor/department chair/school registrar.
