UK Government Review of Waste Policy in England 2011

The UK Government Review of Waste Policy in England 2011 is published and accessible at:

http://www.defra.gov.uk/publications/2011/06/14/pb13540-waste-review/

Strangely, the first of a number of Principal Commitments in this Review is to Prioritise efforts to manage waste in line with the waste hierarchy and reduce the carbon impact of waste

That has been criticised by some, who see the insistence on an increase in the speed at which we move away from landfill disposal as a dangerous and unacceptable policy change. However, UK Government policy and intention is quite clear and there can be no doubt that such views flow from DEFRA and the Environment Agencies.

This seems to be at odds with and sits uncomfortably against the obstructive and at times belligerent reluctance to countenance any move toward recovery of recyclables from ATT waste floc, preferring instead incineration of clinical wastes and yes, landfill of sanitary/offensive wastes that might otherwise be used as a biogas feedstock.
