Vet clinics get notices on waste disposal

A little like our own EA warnings to GPs, but with far greater salience, veterinary clinics in the Emirates are warned about the careful handling of medical (clinical) waste.

Regulators have called for integrated database to enable waste tracking and compliance monitoring. The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has called for safe disposal of veterinary waste in the Emirate, in order to ensure public safety and prevent outbreaks of infection.

ADFCA strives to monitor all veterinary facilities, especially abattoirs, he said. During a campaign inspection, the authority found several irregularities in most abattoirs and other veterinary facilities. With this in mind, it is obvious that the interrelationship between waste-related outbreaks of infection that put livestock in jeopardy, and from there contamination of the food chain, become a real and very significant risk.
