Collection for unwanted medical equipment extended across recycling centres

People can return unwanted medical equipment to reuse and recycle.

The collection amnesty for people to return unwanted medical equipment to reuse and recycle has been extended to larger household waste and recycling centres (HWRC) across the county.

The scheme has been extended to the larger HWRCs at Boston, Gainsborough, Grantham, Louth and Skegness, as well as Lincoln. The initiative will then be reviewed in the summer before possible expansion to less populated centres.

“Following a successful pilot at Lincoln Household Waste Recycling Centre over the last few months, I’m pleased to see this being rolled out to other centres” said Councillor Wendy Bowkett, Executive Councillor for Adult Care and Public Health.

An excellent idea, but I wonder if there is buy in by hospital trusts? Where appropriate, the NHS expects that such aids will be returned to the clinic that provided them when no longer required.

Let’s hope the system works and is equitable for all.
