Major fire at Indian clinical waste plant

A major fire broke out at IMAGE, the bio-medical waste management plant of Indian Medical Association Kerala, at Kanjikode on Sunday. The fire was detected at noon and fire force from Palakkad is is attempting to douse the flames. The plant that was commissioned in 2003 is situated on a 25-acre site.

The picture that accompanies the news report is quite startling. Not least the severity of the fire, but also as it appears to me the monumental mass of sacks of waste of every hue piled outside the building.

If this lot burns to the ground it might at least give the opportunity for a complete rethink of how to do the job properly when they’re building a new plant!
