The Sharps Terminator is back!
Despite a somewhat turbulent history, this FDA-approved device is back under promotion and available for purchase. It has its place though is not a complete solution, and there are problems that are associated with it that might catch the unwary including minor burns and splash contamination from ‘spitting’, fumes etc, the disposal of treated wastes captured internally, and what to do with the needle stub and syringe that must still be disposed with care.
Notwithstanding, the Sharps Terminator and similar ‘snipping devices’ that are purely mechanical in operation, and thus suitable for field use when a reliable power source is not available and taking multiple battery packs is not feasible, each have a place in sharps disposal.
