In a further row over clinical waste management in Scotland, The Scottish Herald reports in gory detail about a row over photos of bins labelled anatomical waste outside Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital.

And this is their evidence! Go to just about any hospital in the UK and look at their storage of clinical wastes. Not infrequently, it’s a damn sight worse that this!

This 2006 research paper might give an idea of the generally poor standards of local storage, not surprisingly worse with the larger waste volumes at large hospitals, and in inner city hospitals where space is obviously limited. In the intervening 13 years, it has not got any better so better not wait for the regulator to do anything useful, or indeed anything at all, to promote improvement.
