Another news item fell onto my desk this morning....yet another hospital banning bedside flowers because - shock - horror - they can transmit "deadly infections"
Of course, there is some evidence that the water in vases of flowers can become contaminated with potentially harmful bacteria, but the link from that to infection is ludicrously overstretched.
But if - and with tongue firmly in cheek - those flowers are responsible for so many 'deadly infections' in our hospitals, what is so wrong if the odd bunch does find its way into a clinical waste sack?
