"INFECTIOUS waste found in a Caulfield South gutter has residents blaming the neighbouring medical centre, saying it's not the first time hospital rubbish has been found in the street.
"Newstead St resident Michael Pellegrini found a used disposable glove in the gutter while sweeping up leaves last week.
"It was the fourth time he had found a glove in his street. He said he had reported the incident to the Caulfield General Medical Centre each time and had been assured it would not happen again. [more]
I have no doubt that people may feel concerned about discarded latex or similar gloves, but of course these may come from many different sources including many quite unrelated to healthcare. But latex gloves are discarded inappropriately, often by the ambulance and other emergency services. After emergency care, the accident scene is often littered with detritus and indeed few would expect ambulance staff to clear those wastes when their first and only priority is to care for a patient in need.
But why is it that, almost invariably, you find only 1 glove?
I have often wondered.
