In many parts of the world, sharps bins are simply too expensive and not available for use.
In that event, sharps must be managed using some alternative that puts them safely beyond use. I have long recommended the use of effervescent Plaster of Paris encapsulation (Blenkharn JI. Safe disposal of sharps. Lancet 1998; 351: 760) and this has proved successful in many areas.
Empty drinks cans can provide a convenient container, and this new 'Antivirus’ device created by Hân Pham is excellent [more] . The gadget has won the People's Choice Award of the 2007 INDEX Award
