Most sharps injuries are caused by complacency, of the sharps user and of those who discard sharps without care.
A report from Germany of an accidental abdominal needlestick injury incurred while discarding a disposal container includes photographs to explain the circumstances of injury.
Great care is required when handling sharps. Similar care is essential when handling sharps containers. Lids may fail if the have not been properly assembled or secured after use. And despite BS specification that includes resistance to puncture, sharps can and do penetrate sharps containers.
Take care.
