Police and state officials called in hazardous waste crews Monday to haul away blood-soaked medical waste found in the Dumpster outside of WomanCare, an abortion provider that operates six mid-Michigan clinics. Alberto Hodari, the clinic's medical director, blamed the apparent improper disposal of materials on a new staff member.

Officials are investigating the improper disposal of foetal matter, bloody surgical pads and medical records in a Dumpster outside the Lathrup Village abortion clinic.

The medical waste was removed by a licensed hazardous waste hauler, said Sgt. Vincent Lynch of the Lathrup Village Police Department. The Dumpster was searched this morning after a complaint by an anti-abortion group last week, he said.
