I would be interested to read the report that you mention (blenkharn@ianlenkharn.com).

What is particularly important is the publication of scientific investigations of this kind, whether by US or UK investigators. Investigators should remain independent and any conflict of interest, for example payment for 'contract research', should be declared.

Publication must, wherever possible, be subject to rigorous independent scrutiny by the peer-review process and thereafter publication should appear in a suitable scientific journal. That process adds immeasurably to the quality of information, and assists the reader to properly evaluate the information that has been presented.

I am aware of the 2003 publication that considered the value of Sharpsmart in reduction of sharps injury during disposal of needles etc, but does not mention the hygiene issues associated with recycling and reuse of the container (Sharps injury reduction using Sharpsmart™ - a reusable sharps management system. J Hosp Infect 2003; 54: 232-238). I await with interest publication of the additional information that you have mention.
