Ocean County and state health officials are advising parents of nearly 1,100 patients of a suspended Toms River paediatrician to have their children revaccinated as soon as possible because the initial doses may not have been effective.
Jose Romillo, charged Dec. 31 by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office with weapons and assault offences - he is accused of firing a handgun in his office sometime in October though authorities said he did not aim the gun at staff or patient, though bullet holes were found in the wall - is under investigation by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners for, among other things, allegations he gave expired doses of vaccine to patients, inadequately immunizing them.
He also allegedly injected a patient with an empty syringe that should have contained vaccine. The state medical examiners board also accused him of treating patients while under the influence of alcohol and failing to perform tests for strep throat on patients when he told their parents or guardians he had. He also is accused of improperly disposing of medical waste.
What a combination of indictments - gun crime, failure in clinical care, drunkenness, and waste disposal infringements!
