Occupational health medicine and health and safety experts are to meet in Dublin in April at a major conference to discuss needlestick injuries in healthcare workers.
The second National Needlestick Injuries Conference 2008 will take place on Friday, April 25, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dublin.
Following the inaugural event in 2006, this conference will focus on the medical, ethical, economic and legal issues facing healthcare workers and the institutions in which they work. Topics addressed will include:
Workshops on the day will examine implementing change: engaging people and changing practice; and support and exposure management following a needlestick injury.
An expert panel of national and international speakers at the conference will include HIQA CEO Dr Tracey Cooper; Ms Edwina Dunne, Head of Quality and Risk, HSE; Dr Blanaid Hayes, consultant in occupational health, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin; and Dr Barbara Wren, consultant lead psychologist in occupational health, Royal Free Hospital, London.
