Commercial Waste Manager wanted – short-term contract

A Commercial Waste Manager isJobs required on a 3 month contract based in Enfield, North London. The post holder will be responsible for managing and developing the following income generating services within Public Realm; Commercial waste and recycling, Housing bin hire service, Schools waste and recycling service, events waste and recycling services, clinical waste service and bulky waste service.

Key Accountabilities

  • To research and prepare Operational, Portfolio and Scrutiny Committee reports
  • To participate in any corporate or cross cutting issues within the authority as may be required.
  • To represent Enfield Council on any service user groups, benchmarking forums and other networking groups
  • To work as a Manager, planning strategically, solving problems by identifying innovative and creative solutions.
  • To continually strive to improve the service, looking for new opportunities and innovation.
  • To guide and mentor direct reports and other members of the team where required.
  • To manage, monitor, develop and promote the following services within the legislation and regulation that surround them and shape the strategic direction and future options for service delivery for (but not limited to):
    • Commercial waste and recycling
    • Housing bin hire service
    • Schools waste and recycling service
    • Events waste and recycling services
    • Clinical waste service
    • Bulky waste service
  • To be responsible for ensuring the services are achieving full cost recovery and are sustainable
  • To be responsible for the income targets and service expenditure, and to report on these monthly
  • To provide management information reports on the services on at least a monthly basis (or more frequently if required) and report back to the department team meetings on performance.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Experience within a similar role within a local authority
  • Proven ability to manage changing workloads in a team.
  • Excellent IT skills including proficient use of excel to capture, analyse and report on complex waste data
  • Ability to manage financial information and make recommendations for income monitoring and setting fees and charges
  • Good knowledge of waste management legislation and the proven ability to translate this in to action in a waste environment to effectively manage the services covered in the role.
  • Experience of managing a significant sized business/ service area or projects in a fast changing competitive environment
  • Experience in managing service areas to the public and user groups to meet customers needs and expectation
