CMA clears acquisition of GW Butler

The acquisition of a Bradford-headquartered business GW Butler which provides clinical waste management services to the NHS has received regulatory clearance.

Healthcare and hazardous waste management company Healthcare Environmental Group (HEG) agreed to buy GW Butler last year.

The Competition and Markets Authority has now decided not to refer the deal to a phase two investigation under the provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.

GW Butler was founded in 1933 and employs 50 staff. It works with 13 major NHS trusts and a mix of public and private sector businesses throughout the UK.

Speaking when the deal was first announced, Martin Helstrip, general manager of GWB, said the combination of facilities and expertise meant the two businesses were an “extremely good fit”.
