SRCL opens alternative treatment plant at Knowsley

SRCL has opened its eighth clinical waste alternative treatment (AT) site at Knowsley, near Liverpool.

According to SRCL, the new AT plant has been specially designed to recover 100% of the treated clinical waste as refuse derived fuel (RDF). “This RDF will be used in the cement industry as an alternative fuel source to virgin fossil fuels and thereby divert 4500 tonnes of waste away from landfill per annum,” said an SRCL spokesperson.

Specifically commissioned to service customers locally in the North West of England, and following an investment of £2m by SRCL, the new AT plant is reported to have the capacity to process up to 48 tonnes of clinical waste per day.
