US hospital highlights recycling with healthcare waste fashion show

Not for the first time, fashion items have been fashioned from healthcare wastes.

This time, its the Kaiser Permanente Roseville hospital in Sacramento. In a different take on Earth Day, the hospital hosted a fashion show with models wearing ‘trash’, in this context meaning medical or healthcare waste and recyclable material found in hospitals.

First place went to surgical tech Daniela Adamo. Her dress was made from sterilization material adorned with medicine caps. Her sun hat and clutch purse — perfect for the beach — are made of medical implant pamphlets.

The Clinical Waste Discussion Forum has previously reported events such as this. Hospital waste to haute couture. Blue wrap is a problem in disposal, but evidently not in dressmaking. Any to ensure the most popular colour of the season and ensure a suitably diverse wardrobe, consider the ubiquitous yellow waste sack!
