Peruvian president inaugurates hospital waste treatment plant in Lima

PeruWith the aim of protecting human health and the environment the plant was built with 4.3 million soles, slightly more than £900k, in government funds and has a useful service life of 10 years.

“We welcome this kind of initiatives that help us improve the quality of our health care system. It’s good to have the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Environment working hand in hand,” Humala noted.

“This a message to the international community that the Peruvian government is committed to respecting the environment,” said the president, who also asked the Ministry of Health to replicate this system in other locations.

The new plant will process all types of solid medical waste from Hipolito Unanue and other hospitals in the Peruvian capital. The Hipolito Unanue Hospital treats more than 450,000 patients a year.

We wish them well in this valuable development.
