A Royal Arrival?

S Wharf RoadNo, we are not ready just yet to welcome the new Royal baby, but to ponder on press reports of the scrum of reported and photographers assembled outside the main entrance of the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.

As the world’s media awaits the good news, one wonders how far it will be business as usual outside in South Wharf Road, W2?

At St Marks, the site is intersected by a public highway. With no undercroft or link tunnel movement of waste bins from one part of the Estate to another, for central storage, is particularly difficult. There is a link bridge, but that can mean a considerable extra effort by waste handlers, who have a tendency to move bright yellow Eurocarts, often with lids ajar and a bulging array of waste sacks, along South Wharf Road to the waste storage/collection bay.

That takes them right across the frontage of the Lindo wing, into the media spotlight and who knows, if the timing is right, ready to create a novel and unusual welcome to the new Royal baby.
