Shock! Horror! New pictures ‘lay bare scale of NHS body parts scandal’

In a display of remarkable journalistic hyperbole, today’s Daily Mail screams “Shocking new pictures lay bare scale of NHS body parts scandal: Inside waste disposal firm facing criminal probe after allowing amputated limbs to build up in huge stockpiles”

Reproducing photographs from the HES Benton, N Tyneside,  plant, it is now claimed that they stockpiled waste includes not only amputated limbs (just how many legs are amputated by the NHS each year?) but also human HEADS having been digested in medical schools. And those spilled needles and other items falling from piles of waste containers, well, it’s a bit like playing Where’s Wally. I certainly can’t see them.

And those heads? The Human Tissue Act requires that they are disposed by cremation, not as clinical waste.

It is difficult to lay the blame for this on the Daily Mail reporter as the information and photographs have been provided by an ex- HES employee. But that really doesn’t matter too much as this new ‘exposé’ is most clearly nonsense.
