There have been earlier posts regarding the success of Mail-back sharps disposal services in the US and the potential value for the UK.
Sadly however, there is a view that such services would contravene postal regulations. However, perhaps that is a matter of regulatory convenience contrived to block a disposal option that does not fit with the present regime. I think it has many advantages, and should be given serious consideration.
