An interesting and eye-catching Letter to the Editor of the Newlanc.com site questions the need for sharps containers when diabetics can manage quite well with an empty drinks bottle to hold their used needles!
With price comparisons of US$42 compared to $0 in a country where the patient gets the bill for everything, the temptation is clearly strong. But of course the margin of safety is reduced to zero unless a sharps container is used for disposal. Having care for those involved in disposal is too easily overlooked.
