Perhaps a rather strange question, but one that is quite appropriate when considering the situation in South Africa.
"The illegal dumping and storage of medical waste around South Africa is verging on a national crisis, the Democratic Alliance warned on Tuesday.
"South Africa generates 35 percent more waste than can be handled, and as much as 800 tons of medical waste are believed to be illegally dumped each year," DA environment spokesperson Gareth Morgan said in a statement.
"There had been a number of recent reports of illegally dumped or illegally stored medical waste, including human tissue, used bandages and needles, and discarded HIV test kits. ""When it came to the disposal of anatomical waste - which, by law, had to be incinerated - there were only five incinerators available in the whole country.
"But no control measures exist to ensure that all waste collected is treated at a licensed facility, and there is poor record keeping and reporting"
