It might be easy to assume that election to the post of Mayor brings a life of relatively generous comfort, lots of generously boozy civic functions and not much else. But it seems that the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Graham Oxley, has other less glamorous duties like this one, of opening a new toilet block! In this picture - that mayoral chain will no doubt come in handy - he looks somewhat flushed with civic pride!

And so he should - I see in the news report that the facilities include a sharps bin. Sheffield should give itself a pat on the back for dealing with the issue of sharps safety.
