The web site WasteDirectory.org.uk is a great idea, but it seems that the reality is far from helpful.

The Agricultural Waste Stakeholders' Forum which involves Defra, the Environment Agency, the National Farmers Union and a range of other organisations with interests in agricultural waste, agreed to put together the ‘Waste Directory ’ to help Agricultural and Horticultural businesses find ways of managing their waste when new regulations came into force in 2006.

Try it. Put in a postcode or town, select a waste type and it promises to offer the details of suitable waste contractors.

I notice that, at least according to wastedirectory.org.uk, almost everyone is recycling swabs and dressings, syringes and needles, and unused medicine! And unfortunately, many of the contractors identified are in excess of 150 miles away, thus offering a service that is anything but green.

A great idea, but hopelessly managed.
